Self-driving Tour in China

There is no greater driving adventure than taking a self-driving tour across China. It's exciting, memorable, and educational.

Although China is not a signatory of the 1968 “Vienna Convention on Road Traffic”, which drew up the conventions governing recognition of an “International Driving Permit”, driving one’s own vehicle or driving a Chinese-registered vehicle in China is certainly possible !

We have many years of experience arranging for foreign groups to drive in China。 By following the procedure outlined below and by reading the FAQ’s, you will have a clear idea of how to make a self-driving tour within China a reality. For more details or for any other questions, please contact our experts.

If you wish to drive your own car, the procedure is:
Step 1. Give CnAdventure your planned itinerary and basic information about the group (eg. number of drivers, number of vehicles, the size of the group, the date the group will arrive China port, duration, accommodation requirements, etc.). We would be willing to give you a quote on the itinerary you propose and to offer suggestions.

If you don’t have a planned itinerary yet, please simply fill our  "tailor-make"  form to tell us what you would like for the tour. Except the required information in the form, please do tell us the “entry” and “exit” ports in China. We could recommend an itinerary for you.

Step 2. If we arrange an itinerary and you accept the quotation, you must provide CnAdventure a deposit of 50% of the total cost of the tour cost which we will use to apply for all the permissions and licenses needed for the tour. Please note this should be submitted 3-6 months before the departure date. You must also provide the following information at the same time:

Driver of the car/motorbike  Information needed regarding the vehicle itself
Name of the driver as on the passport   Make and Model
Sex:   Year of manufacture:
Birthday(yyyy/mm/dd):   Body color:
Profession:   Plate number:
Home address:  Country of registration:
Nationality:  Classis number
Telephone:   Engine number
Email   Engine capacity
Passport No.   Engine cylinder
Date of Issue:   Fuel type:
Location of Issue:  Seats of the vehicle:
Date of expiry:    Value of the vehicle:

Step 3. Based on the information above, CnAdventure will start to apply for all the necessary permits from the Chinese Government and will also do the preparation work needed for the group to come. This process may take 3 months.

Step 4. To get Temporary Entry Vehicle Plate & Driving license, we need the following information at least one month before the departure date.

Certificate of registration international worldwide valid till..?
Drivers's head picture for Chinese Temporary Driving license(8pictures, size: about 2.7cm*3.8cm);
International driving licenses copies;
National driving licenses copes;
Drivers's passport copies;

Step 5. When the group arrives in China, CnAdventure will obtain the Temporary Entry Vehicle Plate & the temporary driving license, buy insurance, and help to finish all customs formalities required for automobiles to enter China.

Step 6. English-speaking guide from CnAdventure will escort you during the tour until you exit from China, coordinating trip logistics and dealing with administrative affairs and any bureaucratic problems arising during the journey so as to keep the tour going smoothly. If there are more than 8 automobiles in a group, we will also arrange a guide vehicle with extra cost.

What Our Clients Say

Two of us enjoyed a truly wonderful tour of Guilin, Yangshuo and surrounding countryside.    Many thanks to CnAdventures for providing very helpful assistance and our guide, David, who was really terrific, both accommodating and informative.  The trip provided a great deal of variety as we hiked, biked and rafted through some of the most gorgeous countryside I have ever seen.  An unplanned side trip to the Dragon's Backbone Rice Terrace was a most worthwhile addition to our itinerary.  Another nice aspect to the trip was the opportunity to sample some excellent local food along the way--stuffed snails and sticky rice cooked in bamboo were a couple of highlights along with rice wine and osmanthus tea.
